by Claudine Zap Warning: That super-convenient, hipster-urban neighborhood you live in? It’s making you fat. According to a study (that looked only at women) out of Erie, New York, residents who lived within a five-minute walk of multiple restaurants had higher Body Mass Index scores than women who lived near grocery stores. Translation: Your neighborhood is bad for your health. New Yorkers: This means you. All that walking you thought was so healthy clearly builds up an appetite for a lovely eight-course meal at your local French brasserie. Or is it the steak house? So many choices! So many calories! And it can’t get any more tempting than this: According to New York City’s tourism board, there are 18,696 restaurants in the city, and counting. That’s a lot of ways to widen the waistline. Au contraire, say steamed up folks at the blog Gawker, which takes issue with any suggestion that New Yorkers are overweight: “Funny, since residents of NYC ? a restaurant paradise ? are known to be the fittest and most attractive Americans of all.” While it’s tough to argue with that logic, the Wall Street Journal blog Metropolis points out an inconvenient truth about New Yorkers: A lot of them ? 56% of adults ? are actually obese. Could this study be a key to unlocking the mystery? Maybe it is time to move ? or at least relocate next to the gym.

by Mike Krumboltz After several poorly received sequels, the “Predators” return to theaters this weekend. This time, instead of battling Ah-nold (as they did in the original 1987 film) or aliens (as they did in the two woeful “Alien vs. Predator” flicks), the dreadlocked killers duke it out with Oscar winner Adrien Brody and the less-than-intimidating Topher Grace. It sounds like a recipe for disaster, but (surprise, surprise) many critics like the franchise reboot. The Boston Globe’s Wesley Morris is darn near over the moon for the Robert
Rodriguez-produced flick. Mr. Morris awards the movie with 3
